Total War: EMPIRE Total War: EMPIRE

Schizophrenic AI and Exploitable Battles

I was impressed that Empire Total War worked on my 2010 iMac. It was definitely a risk to purchase but I enjoyed my first hour of the game, nonetheless.

After the first hour, though, E:TW became a mess. The battles were, at times, nonsensical. For example, if you are in a fort, it is unbelievably easy to hold off an army with countless regiments if you have 1. The calvary will simply charge your walls like a bunch of idionts while you slowly pick them off from the top. I face-palmed after my first few fort battles.

The AI seems to make decisions on the whim of a toddler. Foreign nations will inconsistenly declare war for no good reason. You’re starting to expel Britain from the colonies? Awesome, now Spain wants a piece and declares war on the US. You finally hold off Spain with the help of France? Well now France is going to try to take back all that land they helped you gain.

Overall, I was drawn to the strategy and the time period, but Empire: Total War is a definite bust.
